So 43, what does that encompass?

So it's all of Rensselaer County.

It's a good portion, more than half of Washington County.

And it's also part of Albany County.

So that will, unfortunately, further increase the problems of hunger here in the capital district.

For our peace segment, we hear about the September 21st protest about the Rensselaer County Sheriff's collaboration with ICE by the Albany No Kings Collective.

So we're out in front of the Rensselaer County Public Safety Building, and there is a demonstration today about the fact that the Rensselaer County Sheriff is not complying with the new state law to prohibit such cooperation between the local law enforcement and the ICE.

my name is autumn anderson i am here with the no kings albany collective we are here to express our continuing displeasure with the sheriff of rensselaer county he continues to fight to have the privilege of working with ice and that is just not okay with me as a voter in this county i am very displeased with not only The fact that that's targeting immigrant neighbors, but it's a waste of money, it's a waste of resources.

And so we're here today to express that and we'll see how they react.

You know, have you gotten any feedback from the county or even the county legislature? Are they willing to take any action?

And we're out here today because suits have been filed by 13 county sheriffs in protest of having to not work with ICE, that prohibition.

Now we hear from Andrea Cunliffe as she reports on the September 2nd Rensselaer County Forum.

Local cops, local crime passed New York State legislation on August 25th prohibiting New York State and local law enforcement agencies and local governments from entering into or maintaining the 287G agreements with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, for federal civil immigration enforcement.

Uh, it had gone into effect, uh, on, uh, August 25th.

Uh, immediately after that, uh, Rensselaer County, uh, Sheriff, uh, Kyle Borgelt, uh, he had, uh, sued, um, the Hochul administration over the law, basically saying that, um, the LCLCA, uh, which is Local Cops, Local Crimes Act, uh, was unconstitutional, um, you know, violates, uh, congressionally authorized agreements, um, and basically just asserting, uh, you know, this sort of, like, um, constitutional authority of the sheriff to determine, um, you know, a- as they believe, uh, you know, the law of the land, uh, being answerable only to their electorate, and that's really what's at the heart of this case.

Um, you've now h- seen, uh, there's 15, uh, county sheriffs in total that have joined, uh, the lawsuit against, uh, the Hochul administration.

Um, the Hochul administration responded, uh, by, uh, an, uh, AG, uh, New York Attorney General, uh, Letitia James, uh, responded with a countersuit in state court, um, basically saying that, "No, this is the law.

The counter suit that I mentioned earlier, uh, is in state court.

So that I think is really interesting because the, um, law professors including, uh, Farhang Ha- Hadadi, uh, and Jessica, uh, Pisco, um, you know, have, uh, written a lot about this, basically saying that, um, you know, the, uh, the courts and the judiciary, uh, in the state, um, is, is the, uh, the mechanism by which, um, you enforce, uh, limits and put limits on, uh, sheriff's constitutional authority.

So it's a mix between you have what the legislator says is the law- Um, and then as the, uh, sheriffs, um, you know, m- are now trying to challenge that, uh, in state court, um, uh, the, um, uh, attorney general is saying specifically to Rensselaer County, by the way-

So Dylan was

fired after 30 years at DEC because when he was brought out to Niagara Falls to help investigate the air permit for Goodyear Chemicals, Goodyear basically falsified information and he was told to keep quiet about that but he brought his concerns to EPA and Pretty much everybody who follows air quality issues in New York State knows that there's a massive problem with the regulation of air permits in New York State, but nothing seems to happen.

For our peace and justice segment, Mark talks with Brian Paz Hernandez of the No Kings Collective about an upcoming protest against the Rensselaer County Sheriff for continuing to work with ICE in violation of a new state law.

Governor Hochul quickly withdrew her plans to study a new 3,000-bed prison after lawmakers criticized the proposal amid staffing and safety issues as well as the closing of two dozen prisons.

The Rensselaer County Legislature is inviting residents to a guided walk through the Papscany Island Nature Preserve on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 9.30 a.m.

The one-hour walk is being held as part of the 2026 Hudson River Valley Ramble, an annual celebration featuring outdoor, cultural, and historic events throughout the Hudson River Valley during September.

A federal judge has ruled in favor of a law professor suing West Point as part of a class action lawsuit alleging his rights and other civilian professors' rights to free speech has been violated by the policy requiring West Point faculty to get approval before speaking publicly outside the academy.
