And correct me if I'm wrong, I think you applied the EOS thinking not just to business, but also to your life.
17:22
Yeah.
17:22
It wasn't instantaneous like that.
17:24
At first, I felt hurt.
17:26
When my former husband didn't return my children after school one day, I went from suddenly being a mom of multiple children to nobody.
17:35
And that was one of the most devastating experiences of my life.
17:38
I can remember it every second of that day.

What kind of tools are out there or what should the business owner be thinking about from a tool standpoint that can help them get ready for that exit so they can be part of the 25%, not the 75%?
2:34
What does that award mean to you?
2:37
It was a surprise to me, actually.
2:39
I've just been so... focused on the things that I want to accomplish that I was out in Cleveland, which is where I got this month at the Explaining Institute podcast studio.
2:51
And Scott's like, I've got something to tell you.
2:54
You've been nominated for Exoplanet of the Year.
2:56
I was like, what? I didn't even do a LinkedIn campaign for that.
3:00
Like how on earth? I think that the most magnificent thing about that is that my peers are My community of fellow certified exit planning advisors, which were close to 11,000 now, recognize that our approach needs to shift.

It's their baby that they've built up for how many years, right? How do you look at just, you know, the human side of it, their emotions, that, you know, to make sure that that's kind of in line with the team around them and everything's moving together?
13:52
What about this post-exit identity crisis? So you could have all the planning in the world and maybe things still don't work out like they wanted, or maybe they work out like they wanted, but it's not what they ultimately want.
14:10
You know, depending on the type of exit that a business owner has, whether it's a voluntary or involuntary exit, can really determine what that crisis, the magnitude of that crisis looks like.
14:23
If it's involuntary due to a death of a shareholder, a disability, a disagreement, distress, or divorce, these involuntary triggers of an exit can cause catastrophic impact on the person, the business owner, because they didn't see it coming.
14:44
If it's a voluntary exit, even still, if there's a voluntary exit where a lot of the people in the deal team and that workflow are focusing on the money and the mechanics of the business, they're not focusing on the human being, are they going to be okay? What are they going to do next? In both of those scenarios, business owners 75% of the time move into a crisis, a regretful state after their exit.
15:11
And most of that is born out of a lack of preparedness and planning early enough to help them figure out who they are, how they want to live their life and how to make that happen.
15:23
And they get stuck in this transition gap.
15:27
So after they sell voluntarily or involuntarily, the space between that exit and and them living their life by design whole and intact with themselves is this transition gap.

Yep.
