But it is still important because it does affect how mobile users will interact with content.
TravisHOST

So we're going to watch this little YouTube short by Rene Ritchie over there at YouTube.

Even better than that, YouTube, because I know sometimes we have some YouTube people in here who, like Rene Ritchie, YouTube's creator.

They're always doing updates.
TravisHOST
14:37
And Rene Ritchie has released a new video on the YouTube channel.
TravisHOST
14:40
We're going to take a look at it.
TravisHOST
14:41
We're going to kind of react to this one and just go over the things he talks about here.
TravisHOST
12:34
it is...
TravisHOST
12:36
We have talked the last couple of weeks that YouTube has changed a lot of things this year, and they have, they have seemingly focused in different areas and on different things in these last couple of changes, like the one this past week where Rene Ritchie did, in the middle of our podcast episode, uh, had that, uh, announcement that, um, essentially the, the algorithm's gonna change to, [clears throat] to benefit original creators over the slop farms that are out there.
TravisHOST
13:01
We, we cheer that.
TravisHOST
13:02
We praise them.
Rob WilsonHOST
13:04
And so I asked him about that and said like, "Is it a helpful term? Does it exist?" And we, we kind of went through a long conversation, but i- he came out of it with kind of a positive angle of this in terms of, "I don't look at this as a views jail, but more as a, an escape velocity." Like, how can you get your content to stop circling a certain audience a- and then reach out to a newer audience? So, like, that's what I mean by them looking at the positive aspect of a problem or a situation, and I think that's the philosophy that they have within the company.
Rob WilsonHOST
13:41
Uh, and I, I, I also, like, asked Rene this, 'cause I, I interviewed him as well.
Rob WilsonHOST
13:44
Like, do [laughs] are YouTube employees trained to always look on things, look at things on the bright side, like, and not have this negativity? And I think he, he basically said like that wh- when you, when you're working within that environment, like, I give everybody else has that same, um, objective, it, it kind of rubs off on, on the rest of the crew.
Rob WilsonHOST
14:06
And whereas we seem to be in this other aspect of YouTube where it's just the negativity and the failure manifests itself to the point where everybody just thinks right now unfortunately that Y- YouTube is in a bad place, and I, I don't think that's the case.
Rob WilsonHOST
16:38
Um, had a, a quick chat with him.
Rob WilsonHOST
16:42
And, uh, who else was there? Neil Mohan was there.
Rob WilsonHOST
16:46
And, like, it's funny, I felt as if I really let myself down with Neil because, um, Rene was trying to encourage me to, uh, kind of say hello and have a conversation with him, and then I got distracted by somebody else who came up and said, "Oh, I, I love vidIQ.
Rob WilsonHOST
17:01
I watch all of your videos." And so I was having a chat with that person, and then all of a sudden Neil was in front of me with April Linn, who, again, I think another podcast alumni interviewee, and we got onto the question of A/B video testing, and I was still trying to get into, get into my head, how on earth is this gonna work? And so I kind of asked Neil a question around, uh, do you not think it's gonna create so much more, uh, work and headache for creators? Something like that.
TravisHOST
7:17
I'm gonna, we're gonna sh- watch this here in a minute.
TravisHOST
7:19
Uh, uh, Rene Ritchie just tweeted something or messaged something.
TravisHOST
7:23
We're gonna look at it here in a minute, but before we get to that, um, I ...
TravisHOST
7:27
So again, someone has agreed to this.
TravisHOST
7:42
I don't know exactly what they ...
TravisHOST
7:44
Okay.
TravisHOST
7:44
Anyway, I just saw Rene Ritchie posted something about this, uh, a Short, and it says, "Prioritizing original content on Shorts." Have you seen this Short?
DanHOST
7:51
Uh-
Riley MurdockHOST
4:13
Now, I don't know how YouTube found out about my Shorts slop, but it was one chili dog a long time ago, and it's none of their damn business.
Riley MurdockHOST
4:21
In a Creator Insider video, YouTube's Rene Ritchie said they're targeting low-effort channels that steal and re-upload other people's videos, and they're tweaking the algorithm to prioritize original content.
Riley MurdockHOST
4:34
And no, adding on captions, making minor edits, or using a template filter does not qualify as original content.
Riley MurdockHOST
4:41
YouTube wants real commentary, analysis, and storytelling.
DanHOST
30:18
Maybe
TravisHOST
30:19
I'll ask Rene Ritchie.
TravisHOST
30:20
Cause now that I think about it, I'm like, wait a minute, you have to buy jewels.
TravisHOST
30:24
And if you use it to hype my video, shouldn't I get, it's not going to be a lot of money.
