Renaissance

But we will be hearing the Doctor Who theme just a little bit later.

And in the meantime, I've got a couple things from Renaissance and other stuff.

But we're going to start off with one from their 1973 album, Ashes Are Burning.

And sometime just before this, I heard them on the radio the first time.

Okay, well, we'll get right to it.

The title track from Ashes Are Burning.

Renaissance here on Prago Clock.

A.K.A.

Uh, John says, "I heard the original version on Progzilla a few weeks ago and recalled Annie doing a version of this as well.

I got to see Renaissance at a small club in the late 1880s-- in the late '80s and, uh, stood around 10 feet from her all night, totally mesmerized.

What a voice." Indeed, John, absolutely agree.

This album was recorded in 1997 in Rio de Janeiro and Petrópolis in Brazil.

Another request from Tim, and this is possibly, possibly my favorite song in tonight's show.

[upbeat music] Which says a lot about me [laughs] 'cause we've played a lot of great music, and here I am plumping for Renaissance and Northern Lights.

Well, that's what you get, isn't it? It's a theme show on Sound Radio.

[singing] Destination that we found.

The northern lights are in my eyes.

They guide me back to you

From 1978, Renaissance and Northern Lights

The northern lights are in my mind.

Jethro Tull, Genesis, King Crimson, Alan Holdsworth.

Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Mike Oldfield, Steve Hillage, Kate Bush, Renaissance, definitely female vocal prog bands, National Health.

Hatfield and the North and the Northettes, of course.

Can't forget Focus just for their melodic bent and classical influence.
