And the works, the descriptions of the shows and the descriptions of the works within the shows tend to discuss that as really tying into a tradition, you know, tying into a history of this practice.

And, you know, identifying oneself, myself, as a, you know, classical narrative figurative artist that is using painting techniques that come from the traditions of, you know, certain figureheads in art history, like Caravaggio, like Rembrandt, and so forth.

I think, you know, just in descriptions of shows, I think that it would be limited to that in, you know, how I describe the paintings in the show.

But the true Naples yellow, such as Rembrandt used on the cloak in the painting of Homer, now hanging in the Mauritshaus, has all the freshness to-day that it evidently had when it was painted.

I could cite many examples of prominent painters who felt that Naples yellow was essential to their palette.

But she's, I mean, she's really good as well.

Like she, just to go back to that thing about how to look at painting, she says about Rembrandt, one might be immersed in the puddle of fatty multicolored marks that make up the pudding face of a self-portrait by an aging Rembrandt until the thought process that determined Rembrandt's progress through to the final resolution of the painting would be imbricated in your mind rather than whatever fixed role Rembrandt plays in your idea of art history.

And that's really lovely because it does a few of the things we talk about.

It takes like a very like overdetermined bit of art history, Rembrandt's self-portraits in old age and turns them back into paintings.

And also not just paintings as the object, but painting as the act like that.

the person painting the paint like moving the paint around and um the idea that you could get you could somehow by looking very closely you can actually get about a bit back into that you can have a kind of mirror affect a mirrored feeling of what rembrandt felt when he was painting it and maybe that is one thing that like close looking or something can do which i don't know if i literally believe that but i like the idea of trying to do that

Angelo hesitated for perhaps a full minute.

In that time, he ordered the scene in his mind, the ship from space thrust upward toward the heavens like some weapon of challenge, surrounded by the gentle undulations of the low Renoir range to the far west, the rugged ice-capped Alps of Cezanne to the south, and further distant still, the low wind-tossed and wild Van Gogh plain that stretched endlessly to the east, and finally to the north, the fertile richness of the valleys of Rembrandt, which reached as far as the eye could see.

All this and the warmth of the clear atmosphere that embraced it all was seen and felt in that minute by Angelo and by the rest, as he intended they should.

It is significant that the men of creative genius are, as a rule, men of the greatest productive power.
