So they are capable.

Regurgitator, currently touring a new album.

That'd be great as well.

I don't know if people still remember Regurgitator from back in the days.

And then I'm going to throw out a random one that I actually thought of while I was writing these notes.

I know he's a basketball fan and he was actually coming to the Bullets games when they first returned because we would have a couple of chats here and there on Instagram.

Yeah, happy to.

Well, John, do you remember that time we went and saw Disco Machine Regurgitator at the, where was it? John Curtin? Yeah, John Curtin.

And he did the song about the turkey neck and you got the turkey neck thing.

So I reckon DC stole the idea from the foe.

Yes.

Don't even know what that is.

Oh, Regurgitator in a recording studio set up on the Fed Square forecourt for about a month or something.

It was a while.

But being successful on Triple J and nowhere else had a ceiling, and crawling along that ceiling, in 1996, you would find The Fovs.

I don't know how or why bands like Spiderbait and Regurgitator sold more than The Fovs.

They seemed to get the same amount of radio play They all played hundreds of times to pretty much the same crowds.

They did all these shows, but they never seemed to play big headline shows.

not even with the core Triple J audience.

The album, Lazy Highways, followed a month later.

It charted outside the top 50 in an era when bands like UMI, Regurgitator, The Living End and others were having top five albums and selling gold or platinum on the week of release.

But chart positions fade away, and What's Left is an album that I loved when I first heard it and still love today.

Regurgitator.

We have a two-week break between the prelims and GF.

It's a no-brainer.

Big game, and the Dolphins line up with The Hammer at fullback, the wings of Jamayne Isaako and Selwyn Cobbo.

Uh, you've also got the centers of Jack Bostock, The Undefeated, and Herbie Farnworth.

Regurgitator.

The h- [laughs] the halves, Cody Nikorima and the captain Isaiah Papalii.

You know who

sums it up so well? That Regurgitator song.

I like your old stuff better than your

stuff.

Red did some good stuff.

Notably, they filmed You Am I's hourly daily album launch in 1996, which was later released as a VHS, and they were on ground and filmed the second Homebake, the first in Sydney with Spiderbait and Regurgitator.

But Red was exclusive to Foxtel and Galaxy.

Optus Vision couldn't get it, and Optus Vision customers couldn't get it, so they made their own music channel called ARC Music.

And of course, they had their own rotation of film clips, and Australian bands got plenty of play.

It was 24 hours a day, and very Australian.

Was it particularly alternative? I would say for the first few years, yes, but mainly because the biggest bands in Australia were these Triple J bands who were bursting onto the mainstream, like Regurgitator and The Living End.

But Channel [V] followed new music wherever it went.

But then I-

but then I was like, "I need to be a Straight Edge man," that's why I remember changing it from there.

And I thought that's just a cool way of like what EPs can give you.

Like when Regurgitator put it, it was real early EPs.

Yes.

Right? Yeah.

Those are probably my favourite records from 2004.

Although my favourite musical experience from 2004 was of course watching Regurgitator, The Band in the Bubble, Record an album in a bubble, 24-7 cameras on them for Channel V in Federation Square.

They basically invented reality TV.

Before I had the faves.

It was also two days before the Byron Bay Arts and Music Festival, a three-day camping event that featured a wide variety of music from funk to punk to blues.

The Cruel Sea, Regurgitator and Custard were all playing.

The first home bank benefited from people spending the New Year's break at Byron Bay Arts and Music Festival and trying out a day of this new alternative business.

There was a ticket offer to do both festivals.

The lineup, as you expect, is a nice snapshot of the Australian music scene at the time, early 1996.

Nominally top billing was UMI, hot as hell on the back of their Hi-Fi Way album, but they would ultimately drop out and be replaced by Regurgitator on the back of one of their biggest indie hits with Blubber Boy.

They would soon fly off to Thailand to record their first album.

Kwan wore a pink dress on stage in a kind of anti-macho mood.
