Reed Research Reactor

We have a much larger proportion of students who identify as gender minorities working at this reactor than is typical across the research reactor fleet.

I've worked in staffs that were all male before, and at the Reed reactor, men are the minority.

So it's something that we're really proud of that, uh, you know, we have such a great diversity among our reactor operators, and it's something that I think that we are doing really well.

By one count, the Reed research reactor has licensed more female reactor operators than all the other research reactors in the world combined.

At a lot of schools, undergraduates, if they're allowed to participate at all, they're given the job of washing the test tubes.

They're not the ones designing and running experiments, and the students here get to do that, and I think they get to show that, uh, 18, 19, 20-year-olds are just as creative and smart and capable as anyone else.

For the record, the Reed Reactor is what's called a zero-risk facility, so even in the most catastrophic situations, there's no chance of overheating or meltdown.

And if you yourself were to fall in the water, the only danger would be drowning.
