Red dirt music

So back then it was the beginning of that Texas music scene, w- Texas red dirt music scene of Oklahoma with like, it was Ragweed and Jason Boland and Cougar Graw and Kelly Willis and bands like that.

And, uh, they were...

It was just the mecca time of that kind of bar country music, and it was so different than what's on the radio.

Can you explain, 'cause there's a lot of people-

... that listen to this podcast that don't understand the Texas music history and, and the Texas dance halls and things like that, because that f- for me it was really eye-opening when I came down here for the first time, the way Texans really keep track of, one, their music history, but they continue that on, but it's a very different type of music than what people think of as, like Texas red dirt music.

Yeah, so the dance hall scene versus, like the red dirt scene?

I can't agree with you anymore.

If you wanted to know to me like talking about the non-radio stuff you know i'm a big i'm a big red dirt guy like big yeah dude like i i we had we had jinxie on this show a couple years ago um not last summer the summer before and you want to talk about a dude that is like through and through

like he is he is one of them right And, like,

you know, like, I'm a big Turnpike guy.

Yeah.

No, man, I love that.

I love the red dirt style, man.

It's just I listen to so much music that my my intake is truly like a music smoothie.

Saturday night I woke up, or Saturday I woke up and saw Oklahoma State's program at 4 o'clock at the Hunts Club.

And then I went to the Mercury and I saw the Red Dirt Rangers.

And then I went and saw three of my friends play the Whittier.

I was like, going to a concert does not mean going to a big-ass venue.

And it's all no, no, it's not real country.

Okay, well, what's real country? Okay, cool, you're listening to a Waylon album when he was playing more rock music.

So then you're going to turn around and tell me that you don't like Red Dirt because it's not country enough, but you're listening to Waylon rock out.

I just, I don't understand how something couldn't be country enough that has all the traditional trappings of country.
