Red Candle Games

And, uh, the next film we're gonna chat about is an adaptation of a game that we covered previously a few years ago, that being, uh, the 2019 adaptation of Detention from d- uh, director John Hsu.

Um, which, you know, much like the game, uh, which was originally developed by Red Candle Games, it's set in, uh, 1962 during Taiwan's White Terror period, and it's about two students who are trapped at their, uh, high school at night.

Um, and, you know, we noted when we chatted about Detention the game that it was a really fantastic blending of, um, horror and history, and, uh, a utilization of horror that we've often praised the genre for, that being, um, using genre as a vessel to tell uncomfortable stories, this one being very historical, uh, in that, in that, you know, the White Terror was this, um, real period of, uh, political repression of Taiwanese, uh, civilians and political dissenters.
