Record of Lodoss War

We're in for, uh, quite a battle that's going on there.

I'd love to talk about Sorworld, the Japanese equivalent to Dungeons & Dragons, and how the controversy on how Record of, Record of Lodoss War anime actually made its existence possible, and why, whenever you talk about kobolds, sometimes you're talking about reptilians, sometimes you're talking about dogs.

But unfortunately, those news articles are gonna have to wait until we, uh, go back in two weeks, where I either have Jamie, or I'll have updates on what's next and where my adventure takes me, and possibly have a motorcycle.

I did enjoy the one episode of Record of Lodoss War I watched.

So Record of Lodoss War is, uh, an anime I really, really love.

When that Blu-ray set came out, I bought it right away.

It's now out of print, and if you want it, it's, like, hundreds of dollars.

Is this over, uh, Lodoss?

That's part of it, right? So the first thing is basically they put out the, all these, the books, the Dungeons & Dragons books, and you've seen them, you know, like the big A4 books, like your, your Monster Manual and your Player's Guide and that.

Right.

Aye.

Um, so that was one reason that they didn't sell.

But then after that, some people still played it in Japan, and a couple of Japanese games players started writing down their campaigns, and they turned them into a manga called Record of Lodoss War, which is quite popular.

You might have heard it.

So there are things like that we'd really like to do, but we really had to focus on the core rules and the core play experience.

We haven't mentioned about the Record of Lodoss War, but it has a really interesting connection with the Sword World.

The Record of Lodoss War was basically the D&D replay, the, the same group of people who did that made the Sword World.

And then the first version, original version exists in the same world.

The world that we are currently translating is Sword World 2.5, the world in Raxxia, so it's a different world, although the same company who Hitoshi Yasuda made is the one who is doing the both versions.

Record of Lodoss War really launched, Sword World really launched all of these game designers.

And then I remember reading that novel of the Record of Lodoss War when I was a kid.

I'm really excited to work on this project.

And the standout example they provide from the 1990s is Record of Lodoss War.

Okay, I dug into the background of this because the article mentions it in passing, and the origin story is wild.

Have you looked into this?

It is gorgeous, it's sweeping, and it's entirely serious about its world.

No smartphones in sight.

But as the source emphasizes, Record of Lodoss War was the exception that proved the rule.

It stood largely alone for decades.

And mo- mo- a lot of people have seen that 'cause it was on TV
