Despite agreeing to the monetary settlement, the university's administrators did not issue an apology or an admission of wrongdoing, and still exists that they, quote, acted appropriately.

Jacob Solem describes the case for Reason Magazine, saying that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th District ruled last December that UW administrators violated Regis' First Amendment rights by subjecting him to an inquisition that lasted nearly a year, during which time he was denied a merit pay increase based on his alleged violation of the university's vague anti-harassment policy.

According to the Ninth Circuit's decision in Reyes v. Cauce, the state university retaliated against Reyes for protected speech and engaged in viewpoint discrimination, which is presumptively unconstitutional.

"'They broke the law, but refused to admit it,' Ridges wrote recently in the New York Post.

We hold that the university's actions toward the professor violated his First Amendment rights, unquote.

Professor investigated for mocking a university land acknowledgement gets a $600,000 settlement at Reason.com. Pollster Patrick Graffini of Echelon Insights recently released some new numbers on AI and the nation's data center build-out, trying to tease apart what Americans really think about the growth of IT infrastructure.

He points out that both Gallup and Fox News polling has shown that environmental concerns and resources heavily outweigh AI as a contributing factor for data center opponents.
