Real Estate

Also, I guess the celebration day of Big Thief playing their first concert.

Edmonton ever and I know that is a an important band for me to see and have been kind of chasing them around not really chasing but hoping that our paths would cross one day and you know it would say kind of happened about five years ago uh you know i don't even know when did i discover wouldn't i start listening to them that's a good question yeah okay well actually way more almost like 10 years really 10 years uh from when i kind of discovered the band so i'm happy that that will be happening tonight at the jube uh stoked so that's how i started the show the first song that really hooked me in by big thief off of capacity from 2017 shark smile hoping to see that song tonight at the jupe we'll see they've put out like a million albums in between the 2017 record but i no matter what the performance is going to be great and i'm excited i'm excited for it um After that we had Real Estate.

Off the last record, Daniel, which is a great, great record.

Came out in 2024.

Uh, yeah, and actually bought the CD on that.

But I actually bought a vinyl of, uh, and you will know these, Real Estate.

Really like Real Estate.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

I like...

Mm.

Like, putting a track on, putting an album on and just playing it all out.

But yeah, Real Estate, that's, uh, I, I love them.

Let me tell you everything you just heard there.

Before that one, we had It's Real by Real Estate off the album, Days.

And then before that, we had Our Swords by Band of Horses off the album, Everything All the Time.

Just, uh...

300 people.

Real Estate, the band.

Lots of cool American bands.

Sick.

So without further ado.

We're going to start off with a song called The Bend by a group called Real Estate.

This is very much one of those like college rock, indie rock style of bands.

This was a group that I was tangentially aware of for a while and then kept hearing them on Sirius XMU.

But this is absolutely one of their better songs that I think in their entire catalog.

And it's an interesting one because it has all of the atmospheric aspects.

with that you would expect out of a real estate song but the the lyrics are a bit weightier and it's interesting because martin courtney who was the singer apparently when the song was written had just gotten married was expecting his first child was about to turn 30 and you know the whole metaphor of the song is about a you know an image of driving a car that doesn't respond properly anymore which i can certainly relate to that i know many people can as well So it really, I think, resonates in a way that is less traditional indie rock and feels a little more mature and therefore, I think, just more impactful.

So The Bend by Real Estate.
