M

Why did Democrats think they needed a candidate with the same last name as incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan to win? Did they think Alaska voters were so unfocused, so confusable, as to fall for the other Sullivan, a political cipher in this campaign who appears nowhere and says nothing? Did they not think a campaign about ideas might be better? Ideas like, I don't know, the war in Iran, developing energy resources in Alaska, health care, corruption, President Trump.
M
1:42Major GarrettHOST
In this generally negative atmosphere for the Republican Party and with a well-regarded former House Democrat, Mary Peltola, running, did they not think that was enough? Did they think genuinely that they needed a two-bit scam, that they then tried to hide the scam? By the way, it's relatively small potatoes, and it is legal.

if you elect Democrats left-wingers you're going to get what's happening in Paris without really realizing that no what we have is Trump and if Trump's policies come completely to fruition likely what you're seeing in Paris is coming here but they already expect what's happening in Paris to be here how do I know that because those gulags that Trump is building that we're no longer paying attention to.

reclaiming both the House and the Senate.
C
2:07Courtney TheriaultHOST
You could have the Democrats just winning the House, but the Senate remains under Republican control.
C
2:13Courtney TheriaultHOST
Or the Republicans could perhaps roar back, maybe.
C
2:16Courtney TheriaultHOST
Obviously, the polls don't seem to suggest that right now, but the Republicans could still ultimately control all three branches of government.
C
2:23Courtney TheriaultHOST
I'm curious what your thought, what would the impact be if the President had to negotiate with the House, with the Senate, under Democratic control? would that move the needle at all in terms of trade talks with the United States?
C
2:38Chetan DaveGUEST
I think it would move the needle depending on what the composition of the Democratic majority is, right? So if you've got a Democratic majority where Texas has been flipped, for Tallarico, for example, and some Democrats have made inroads in what were typically considered to be Republican constituencies, then the type of Democrat that's going to get elected in that world is going to be a little protectionist, but just not as protectionist as Trump is.
C
3:11Chetan DaveGUEST
But if the blue wave is just this massive thing that almost every county is switching to the Democrats in the House.
C
3:21Chetan DaveGUEST
Then, you know, and the type of Democrat that is getting elected is basically, for lack of a better term, Republican-lite.
