Ray Nelson

So I'm going to cover a little bit of 8 o'clock in the morning, which is the inspiration for They Live.

It was written a short story by Ray Nelson and appeared in the November 1963 issue of the magazine of fantasy and science fiction alongside Isaac Asimov, which was cool.

And a few months after Ray Bradbury, just like time of like.

And while Ray Nelson never quite reached widespread popularity like the other two names that I have listed, 8 o'clock in the morning was his most popular piece.

And the inspiration and similarities between the two pieces of media are pretty direct.

It's like the same story with a few differences.

And it is based off of a book, just so you guys are aware, it was adapted into film.

I believe it was the book itself was a 1963 short story that was called Eight O'Clock in the Morning by Ray Nelson.

And it's it was also set in Los Angeles.

And and it's if I believe it was either way, I'll have to I'll have to go back and kind of now that that, you know, I've been because I've watched this so long ago that I didn't even appreciate it for what it is, you know, and so rewatching it now and In hindsight, it's just one of the greatest kind of cultural reference points for this mind virus and this intentional slumber that we have all been lured into.

And no, the Carpenter script story was me spinning.

The film was written by John Carpenter and Frank Armitage, based on a short story by Ray Nelson.

They Live, 1988 American science fiction action horror film written, directed, and scored by John Carpenter, starring Roddy Piper, Keith David, and Meg Foster.

It was based on the 1963 short story Eight O'Clock in the Morning by Ray Nelson.

Set in Los Angeles, it follows a working class drifter who discovers that the ruling class are camouflaged aliens, which drives him on a quest to expose them to the world.

Um, for me, They Live is a tale of two halves.
