Raspberry Pi Foundation

So that'll be part of the conversation tonight in terms of how all teachers and all staff can support this idea of AI literacy and what resources might be out there to help do that.

And this program is produced in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, who you might have heard of.

They're the educational charity behind Experience AI, which we're going to touch on as well in this conversation, which is a completely free AI literacy program co-developed with Google DeepMind.

And Experience AI has already reached an estimated 5.2 million learners around the world, which is exciting.

But yeah, so yeah, I'm Matthew Williams.

I'm a school leader and obviously exploring artificial intelligence and AI literacy in education now for a few years.

So it's great to be here interviewing and speaking to you both tonight about your experience AI platform and the amazing work that Raspberry Pi Foundation do.

I have some Raspberry Pis in my classroom, so we have a connection.

And I try to teach my students about productive struggle.

So Laura, you work with the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

And, you know, a lot of teachers say, I'm not an expert.

I can't teach this.

And so we develop as humans lessons for

other humans.

We've been talking with Laura Gray from the Raspberry Pi Foundation about the free experience AI curriculum.

that you can download and use with your classes.

For SYSadmins and privacy advocates alike, the take-home message is clear: staying on top of updates isn't just good practice, it's absolutely essential to ward off evolving threats and keep systems resilient.

Shifting gears to the scene of affordable hardware, the Raspberry Pi Foundation just announced a major overhaul of the Raspberry Pi desktop.

This new version has been reimagined for ARM64 single-board computers with streamlined interfaces and updated apps, bringing a friendlier, faster experience for everyone from coders to classroom learners.

These improvements mean that even the smallest, cheapest boards now offer smoother workflows, ensuring that open source education and tinkering remain as accessible as ever.

So let's introduce them.

Ben Garside is senior learning manager for the AI literacy team at the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Before joining the foundation, Ben spent 14 years teaching 11 to 18-year-olds, and he's now the lead content developer for Experience AI, of which we will hear much more later, working in collaboration with Google DeepMind to produce free AI literacy resources for educators.

Pleasure to be here.

[laughs] And alongside Ben we have Emma Staves, learning manager, also at the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Now, Emma has more than 20 years' experience as a computer science teacher, working with pupils aged from 8 to 18 across a range of school settings.

Seed Signer is a percent of a percent of a percent of, you know, the, the potential use case for all of those, um, Raspberry Pis.

So hypothetically, could something be introduced at the factory that would downstream potentially affect the operation of a Raspberry Pi that could create a security issue for Seed Signer users? Hypothetically, it's possible, um, but again, even with the increased attention that Seed Center's got, we are nowhere on [chuckles] the radar of the Raspberry Pi Foundation or really the rest of the open source single-board computer, uh, computing community.

And if you were the kind of person who was going to compromise a supply chain and you had the resources and the ability to do that, it would make a ton more sense to target a Ledger or a Trezor or a foundation or some company where there is not just a small, tiny percentage of those devices that are gonna be used for Bitcoin cold storage, but basically all of the devices are gonna be used for Bitcoin cold storage.
