I'm not a game designer, right? But if you talk to Jay McGonigal or a bunch of these people, they'll give you, or Ralph Koster, they'll give you a bunch of really good advice on how to do this, at least in games, right? And those provide some pretty good hints at how you bring it into your everyday life.

But here's my feeling about this.

And again, it kind of goes back to this challenge skill balance a little bit which i know we talked about maybe it's not everything it's made out to be but you know i think different tasks have different challenge curves right um we you know we've got some uh friends that their daughters just got old enough to start skiing and they wanted to pick up skiing they're like should we ski or snowboard i'm like oh start skiing because like the challenge curve at least initially on skiing is way flatter than the challenge curve to pick up snowboarding but then it shifts right i think snowboarding is like really hard to learn but then you're in this flat everything is not progressing.

Anyway, so on the layoffs, he says, "I think this is as bad as the '83 crash if you're a game developer bas- based in North America or Western Europe and, or in a traditional triple-A studio.

That's ground zero for destruction." One other quote I pulled of Ralph Koster, Playable World CEO, said, "Triple-A costs rise roughly 10X per decade.

Like, the previews made me feel like there was maybe a bit more going on there, and that's not the type of stuff that you stick in the 30-minute presentation that my cousin's gonna watch, you know?

Yeah, I think, um, a, the sort of like a core under-the-hood mechanism that you're speaking to is the thing that Raph Koster talked a, a lot about with the Star Wars Galaxy stuff, which is that, uh, and I think it's relevant because it's, he's like a sandbox game design legend, um, which is that like the, the player needs this sort of off, off-screen horizon that they're pushing towards, and over that horizon, there are unseen possibilities.

And as long as the game holds mystery, as long as there are like, "Oh wow, this game might do something that really surprises me," um, the game remains interesting and players will, you know, crawl through the mud to see what's over the horizon.
