I still remember coming home from school, watching Rap City, watching the video, not knowing nothing, and it was just like, "Dun, dun.

Dun, dun." And then there, "You can feel it." And then them drums hit.

It was like, yo.

before the internet and all this stuff was out, it was the movies.

It was BET, Rap City.

It was MTV that gave these visuals in music videos of what life was like.

And I was always interested in that, so.

From '89 to '94, we ran, it was Arsenio, Yo! MTV Raps.

Uh, was Rap City on?

And, and, and we all grew up, uh, waking up on Saturday to watch Soul Train.

I remember that.

The fans really got the power.

When all you could get your music from was the store, 106 and Park, MTV and Rap City, or radio, that was the gatekeeping.

But how bad was that, right? In terms of how we view artists.

Once we gave artists the keys to their own content and told them they could go, we got some wins and a whole lot of losing.

He was always on the covers of magazines, newspapers.

If you grew up in that era when MTV Jams or BET Rap City was on, he was always on there.

Like, you could not get away from Tupac.

He was probably, at that point, the biggest star the genre had ever produced.

We didn't have 106 and Park yet.

Most of the times on Rap City or UMCB Raps, I don't remember them giving out dates a lot.

you know what i mean being like yo the new album is dropping january 5th pick it up like yeah you just run into the store so like you said kelvin you kind of gotta go and i didn't know back then oh records drop on tuesday i didn't know i didn't know when the you know we didn't know all these rules that people know now i didn't at least didn't know back then you know what you're gonna say back

Just to say the same thing, I remember I was rocking Death Certificate, felt like I was listening to that shit for five years straight, even though it wasn't.

I'm sure we will love these songs.

I don't know if we will love them as much if we didn't see the videos every day, all day.

Like there was something about getting home from school, watching Rap City.

watching the box buying videos off the box you know waiting for yo and tv raps on saturday morning like again i can't keep saying enough how all these things kind of came together you know what i mean we're gonna say back i think like to what you just said i think

I literally used to watch UMTV Raps and Rap City, and then whatever I liked that I heard, I would walk to the record store, and buy a single or something.

RRC Records was in my neighborhood growing up.
