Ranger Rick

And so you mentioned a new show that I'm doing.

I'm involved in a podcast called Wild Critters USA, and it's a partnership between National Wildlife Federation through our Ranger Rick Magazine that I mentioned and PBS Nature.

And in every episode, it's a weekly podcast that drops four kids.

It's actually kids that are asking questions of nature experts.

And kids get to ask them questions about different, you know, different wildlife species.

It's all focused on the US, so it's all North American US wildlife species.

And I get an extra special thing to do is that I get to be in every episode representing Ranger Rick and I get to answer one question from kids.

So, you know, I've had kids asking me questions about alligators and were they around, you know, from the time of the dinosaurs? We have an episode that's about to come out on monarch butterflies that I already mentioned a minute ago.

We brought this question to our friend David Mizejewski.

Mr. David is a science advisor for Ranger Rick magazine from the National Wildlife Federation, and is helping us out with this wild critter series.

Hey, Mr. David, how does a young mountain lion find its own territory?

Great question, Sam.

Yeah.

And Booth responds, "What do I look like, Ranger Rick?"

Oh.

And have we discussed this?

I don't think so.

All right.

Somehow, somewhere in my life in the last two to three months, I've had a discussion about Ranger Rick with someone.

Is it my brother-

So when I began as an artist, it's funny, I kind of began as an illustrator right away.

The very first thing that I truly drew well was a picture of a jaguar from a Ranger Rick magazine or something.

And...

After that, like I was drawing just what I was absorbing and I was absorbing kids shows, the WB, you know, Batman animated series, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, all those like mid nineties things were my age bracket.

You know, as a kid, when you're watching like, well, I don't even know if they have these anymore, but like the kids nature programs.

And I remember getting books called or magazines called your big backyard and Ranger Rick.

I don't remember those.

And they were, I don't know what they, I don't know if it was like National Geographic for kids or what it was.

And I have Ranger Rick magazines.

I have three boxes of them.

They date from 1974 all the way to 2024, and they're free to a good home.

And you mentioned one of my most recent projects.

And that is this partnership that the National Wildlife Federation through our Ranger Rick Magazine has done with PBS Nature.

And we're doing this podcast called Wild Critters USA.

And it's a kid-focused podcast.

Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service and the Smithsonian's National Zoo.

And they those experts are answering a whole series of questions on different topics in every episode.

I am super lucky that I get to be in every episode representing Ranger Rick Magazine, and I get to answer one question in each of them.

So yeah, I think, you know, the idea is that we can use this super popular medium, podcasts, as a vehicle to connect with families and get kids inspired to want to learn more about nature.
