There's a lot of names on the list that I don't know.

There's a lot of names that I can't pronounce, but Randy Brecker.

Jimmy Bosch.

I don't know Jimmy Bosch, but Randy Brecker, of course, we know from from.

Yeah, from our.

But yeah, Dizzy Gillespie to Bird With Love in 1992.

And then, of course, David has been nominated and won Grammy awards for Latin albums.

so habana to me to listen to the two of them play i began to hear david as a soul-searching individual i listened to his master class today about a five minute conversation about learning to breathe and learning to use your horn as your voice and he says just take it slow and play the note play it over and over and over until you start to feel that note And, of course, I listened to that.

[laughs] They're still calling you, Fred.

The best musician from the Randy, um, Randy Brecker, uh, Michael Brecker.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, the best.

Yeah, and then you had the R&B cats.

You had like Cornell Dupree, Steve Gadd, and Dave Sanborn, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Dave Taylor, Tom Malone, Ronnie Cuber, all these amazing musicians.

setting up to do R&B dates.

We even did some jingle dates too.

I remember a few years ago going to the record shop and actually buying albums and singles from the Brecker Brothers.

They're both dead now, aren't they? No, Michael Brecker died of leukaemia when he was only 57, but Randy Brecker still played.

Randy still played, is he? Yeah.

Right.

Yeah, so I've been thinking a lot about him, and I've been talking with my alumni, fellow bandmates from that era.

I've had so many guys from the original Blood, Sweat & Tears on the show, okay? Randy Brecker and Jim Fielder, Fred Lipsius, okay? It was a great, great band when it began.

Tell me who was in the band when you were playing with them.

It was just Clayton, as we called him, David Clayton Thomas.

Musicians from the Miles legacy bands and so on.

So yeah, You know, I owe Mike Stern and Mike Brecker and Randy Brecker and Scofield, all these people, I owe them so much.

And I owe New York and I owe the American jazz scene so much for teaching me and giving me all the stuff I never thought I would be a part of.

I pinch myself all the time when I realize what life I have in this music.

There's some pretty great players on this thing as well, which when I learned that it was, you know, religious propaganda, I was a little confused.

Like, how are they getting Randy Brecker, George Young, and the Phoenix Horns on this album? Like...

The Phoenix horns are earth, wind and fires horn section, right?

Exactly.
