Caching is the process of storing the results of a complex operation that takes a finite amount of time that we perceive as human as a long time to compute.

It takes a lot of resources, CPU, RAM, and time.

And storing the results in memory, in another data store, to skip that long running operation and save on resources and memory.

You might be tempted to cache any operation that may seem to be slow, but I want to argue that this is a very very very very bad practice and we started to see it in the in the last decade or so and always backfire because it gives you a cop out to not look at the operation that you're doing and to avoid optimizing your work.

But the problem is we got used to it.

We got used to doing all this operation and we almost never know that caches are being used.

So back to this RAM example, we're limited here by the RAM, right? By the bus speed, by the...

by how fast we could perform a memory access to this DRAM, by how much bandwidth the DRAM supports.

We do actually just found out we have a micro center.

They always do bundle deals where you can get like a motherboard and RAM and CPU for like $400 or $500.

And it's like that's a pretty good price considering that a lot of RAM is like $400 or $500 now.

I was watching something yesterday or the day before.

And yes, they were making an unapologetically high-end PC, but even for what they were doing, they were like, yeah, and this 64 gigs of RAM was $1,500.
