Now, every second Sunday in September, Ramsbottom hosts the World Black Pudding Championships.

It's the Black Pudding Throwing Championships, actually.

It's on Bridge Street at the Oaks pub.

Now, I'm not going to get involved in the argument about vegans and vegetarians.

I can understand both sides of it.

As somebody who worked and lived in Ramsbottom, I had to deal with the farmers on one side and the anti-UMP brigade on the other.

It's not the first time I've stood between those two groups and got an earful from both sides.

For two seasons, 1884 to '5, I played for Ramsbottom CC on all my spare Saturdays.

My 1884 batting average was 36 per innings and bowling 7.30 per wicket, which headed the list both in batting and bowling averages.
