Ramat Beit Shemesh

They do it in Ramot.

And God willing, they're going to do it in Ramat Beit Shemesh.

For more than three decades, Rav Chaim has devoted himself to teaching Torah, seeking to transmit not only knowledge, but also a deep love of Torah and the land of Israel.

Rav Soloveitchik is the founder of Kiilat Or Shalom in Ramat Beit Shemesh, where he teaches Torah and inspires Jews living in Eretz Yisrael.

He and Pirach are blessed to be proud parents and grandparents, and he takes special pride in his children, who serve and contribute to the State of Israel, including several who have served in the IDF.

Rav Chaim Soloveitchik, thank you very much for joining me today, once again, on the Orthodox Conundrum Podcast.

So he says, the same thing applies to us when it comes to Sukkot.

When it comes to our Sukkot, especially here in Eretz Israel, my neighborhood of Ramat Beit Shemesh, they actually build the apartments so you can stagger all the old Sukkot.

When you go outside to your Sukkah, when we all go out to our temporary dwellings, leave the safety and comfort of our own homes, that when we're in our own personal homes, it's a lot more separate from the rest of the world.

But one day a year, one week a year, we go out on Sukkot, and we're out there in the world with the rest of Am Yisrael, and there's a deeper idea of achdut.

So let me go move that forward in a different way, maybe actually in the same way, but take it even longer.

Forget 78 years.

I once asked Rav Chaim Soloveitchik, again, another fine Ramat Beit Shemesh, who's been on this podcast, and the Rav of Baishul.

Shemosat Sadiq can be mentioning, like, you know, the rappers mention all the .

I mean, we weren't millionaires, we're still not millionaires.

So we really could use the money and, you know, that thought, really crossed my mind like maybe maybe we should stay one more year i'll get a you know a 30 some odd thousand extra dollars in the bank and then we'll make all the other year after and unfortunately that's that's what causes many people to not fulfill their dream because they say that and then the next year something else comes up and it's like oh we'll say just one more year to do something else or to make a little bit more money so now i can have buy even a bigger house in israel etc so thank god we didn't do that and we decided to go and i went to a colo the colon and downstairs from us lived another american couple and we weren't we weren't looking to buy an apartment i i was going to be in this call for four years we had a an apartment given to us you know i didn't have to pay any rent and you know well one day we'll look for an apartment to buy right But our downstairs neighbor was going to look in Beit Shemesh at the very, very beginning, before Ramat Beit Shemesh was even a dream.

Ramat Beit Shemesh was a big mountain.

This whole thing was just mountains.

This is talking about Givat Sharet, which is the hill before Ramat Beit Shemesh, which is where I live.

So they were just putting up a few new buildings and our downstairs neighbors said, you know, we're going with somebody to look at an apartment.

Do you want to come with us? We said, sure.

We're looking at them positively.

That is a kind of a meta approach to with which we'll conclude the idea of the simanim, the Rav of my shul in Ramat Beit Shemesh, Rav Menachem Kuperman, Rav Avakilat Avatzion, wrote of our Torah back in 2008, in which he presented this idea as well.

But it sounds like he came up with it on his own.

He says, wrote this for an English publication in Beit Shemesh, the top right of page three, We have a tendency to look at things and judge people in the simplistic, external way that they seem to be at first sight without any prior thought or depth.
