Ralph Bakshi

Got a good one out there at one point.

Since we've gotten into that, I know you have not seen all the stuff by former disgraced American auteur Ralph Bakshi.

And you've been talking about Fire and Ice for a minute.

Yeah,

The story of it is almost, like, there's almost nothing there as far as story.

I mean, just things happen to people.

And, I mean, some of the best rotoscoping of Ralph Bakshi's career, and I will grant it that very strong aspect.

I mean, compared to American Pop, which is riddled with tracking errors, Fire and Ice, when characters move, they move like real people, and you don't see these weird frames jumping in and out.

You know, people that had really been invested in the books.

They knew the old Ralph Bakshi, you know, cartoons and, and whatever it was, that it, it was a big deal.

And I, I think for me, I might even argue, well, those films were probably my introduction to Tolkien at all, right?

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, it just really made me yearn for the days where we could just have cartoons, instead of like, "Oh, it's gotta be educational.

It's gotta be chi- kid friendly." I, I know we can't go back to Ralph Bakshi, 'cause that never really made any money.

[laughs] I will say that is the reason why.

I guess it's a real, like, we really have to dedicate our time to animation if we're going to allow the success of serious features like, say, Transformers.

Yeah.

Uh, whoe- uh, w- what was your, your post was like whoever told Ralph Bakshi that his movies need to act- have actual plots should be shot.

'Cause I s- I saw those later, and like this guy's really bad at stories.

He just is.

Yeah, this movie's Italian as all hell.

I read in Wikipedia, and I did not know this, apparently, Ralph Bakshi was slated to direct this.

Would have been, what, his first live action? Is that true? I

know.
