Rajshahi

At 2:00 AM, on that fateful morning of August 15, Oishi's aunt receives a phone call from her niece.

Oishi's voice trembles as she claims her parents have abruptly packed up and left for Rajshahi, a city five hours away, abandoning her and her little brother all alone in the flat.

Now, take a second and think about that.

Why would a veteran intelligence inspector and his wife abandon their children and take off, and that too in the dead of night without telling a single relative? Why is a teenager calling her aunt at 2:00 in the morning and narrating this bizarre departure? Yet in life, strange is not always flagged as alarming in the moment.

Now, late that afternoon, the locksmith shatters the lock.

The door swings open, releasing a wave of oppressive, overwhelming August heat, and there is a metallic stench.

Now, the police step inside, expecting the apartment to be empty, expecting to confirm that Mehfuzur and Swapna had fled to Rajshahi.

But instead, they find the couple right where the couple fell, and that is a bathroom attached to Oishi's bedroom.
