Homage to you, O thoroughbred! Homage to you, supreme among men! We don't understand the basis of your absorption.

At the Peacock's Feeding Ground At one time the Buddha was staying near Rajagaha at the monastery of the wanderers in the peacock's feeding ground.

There the Buddha addressed the mendicants, "'Mendicants?' "'Venerable sir,' they replied.

The Buddha said this, mendicants a mendicant who has three qualities has reached the ultimate end the ultimate sanctuary the ultimate spiritual life the ultimate goal they are best among gods and humans what three the entire spectrum of an adept's ethics immersion and wisdom A mendicant with these three qualities has reached the ultimate end, the ultimate sanctuary, the ultimate spiritual life, the ultimate goal.

Venerables Mahakasyapa, Anuruddha, and Ananda brought the Buddha's begging bowl back to the bamboo forest.

A month later, Mahakasyapa organized an assembly of bhikkhus at Rajgir with the purpose of compiling all the sutras and precepts that the Buddha had given them.

Five hundred bhikkhus were selected based on their standing and experience in the Sangha.

The assembly was to begin at the beginning of the retreat season and to last for six months.

you can just study one as it compiled all the information together so it's very easy for our study and the language is very beautiful it's easy to understand so one can either use this compiled version or the version translated by some environment and in the future i might also talk about the 48 great vats one the version translated by sakuraman but both of them are more or less the same I'll also introduce a little bit of background of the Infinite Life Sutra.

So the first two chapters, it talks about how the Buddha was in the Vulture Peak of Rajagaha and introduced who were there in the assembly, including all these enlightened great bodhisattvas and arahants.

And in the third chapter, the Buddha emitted great light and looked extremely radiant and wonderful.

And his attendant Ananda asked the Buddha, Oh, how come, Buddha, you look so wonderful today? Are you being mindful of some Buddhas from other worlds? And the Buddha praised Ananda for asking this question and said the merit of him asking this question today surpassed the merit if someone made offerings to some enlightened beings and all beings.

Who knows it will not find deliverance? I shall leave your hermitage, and I shall seek the rule to which we must submit before we can have done with suffering.

And the hero set out for the country of Magadha, and there, alone and absorbed in meditation, he dwelt on the slope of a mountain, near the city of Rajagriha.

One morning the hero took his alms bowl and entered the city of Rajagriha.

The people who passed him on the road admired his beauty and his noble bearing.

He says, "A look at a map will show that the ancient road would have passed through Kusinara," or Kusinagara in Sanskrit, "and continued all the way to Savati, and that at some point beyond Kusinara, it would have branched off to Kapilavatu in the Shakya Kingdom, where the Buddha's family lived.

It would not be unreasonable," the author says, "to conjecture that when the Buddha set off from Rajagaha on his final journey, his destination was Kapilavatu, where he hoped to spend his last days." I thought that was kind of interesting.

Um, but as it happened, he became too ill to make the whole journey and had to end it in Kusinara, which was in the northern kingdom of Malla.

Later, some of his disciples, Makkhakasho and others who were in other locations, came, but they, they didn't-- they weren't able to be there right when he died.
