Raine Maida

Recorded live during their OLP 30, 30th anniversary tour across Canada, this track became an instant high point of their night.

Rain Maida mentioned that as a struggling teenage artist, the Tragically Hip taught him the exact difference between standard entertainment and true art.

So when OLP hit the road to celebrate three decades as a band, paying homage to Gord and the boys wasn't just a fun idea.

It felt mandatory.

And...

Rain Maida came out with a duct

taped

Lake Ontario onto his shirt, which I thought was maybe the biggest loser move I've ever seen in my life.

And she was like, I just like, I've got this idea.

And I texted my friend Justin Trudeau and was like, oh, should I do this or whatever? Just kind of reminded me of that.

Like Rain was probably like, I have to say something.

Get the tape.

It has their main group, man.

It has Rain Maida on vocals, Duncan Poots on bass, Jeremy Taggart on drums, and Steve Mazzurro on the guitar.

And every once in a while, they'll tour, and you can actually still go see them.

This is somewhere out there.

Now, the story was not my idea.

It was actually the band's idea, Rain and his manager, Jason.

And the idea was to, you know, the label wanted to do a documentary celebrating the band's 30th year, but they were sort of opposed to that idea of this sort of cliche, odious band tribute.

and wanted to do something different.

And it took Rain a couple of weeks, but then he felt like, well, we got this fan in New York.

Maybe we do something from a fan's perspective of the band.

We have this fan.

of going back to what you're saying about Our Lady Peace wanting to put together something, it would have been very easy for the band itself to kind of swallow the entire film.
