RAF Mount Pleasant

Number three, in the United Kingdom, there's going to have to be, I guess, a question asked about military posture.

So Are we, i.e. we in London, the UK, content that the military posture currently based in and around Mount Pleasant Air Base is sufficiently robust... to deter any misguided opportunistic action, whatever form that might take.

And we, in London, the UK, will need to have that candid conversation at a time, as I said right at the start, We've got a strategic environment in the North Atlantic, the Arctic, that is quite reasonably taking up a lot of our time.

And we shouldn't forget the war in Ukraine is in its fifth year.

You don't land in a charming seaside island town.

You land at Mount Pleasant Airport, known locally as MPA, and it is a sprawling, utilitarian, windswept military air base.

Okay.

And it's situated about 35 miles southwest of Stanley.

The Falklands are better defended than they were in 1982.

The airfield RAF Mount Pleasant, built since the war, is the hub of a permanent British military presence, presently including the four Eurofighter Typhoons of the Royal Air Force's 1435 flight, and a Sky Sabre air defence battery.

Precise troop numbers and complete details of any Royal Navy presence, surface or submarine, are not advertised.

But Argentina's military is probably less of a shambles at command level than it was in 1982, and Argentina's military also has few other concerns with which to occupy itself beyond morbid fantasies of conquering Las Malvinas.
