And where does that passion come from for you?
Fiona ScottSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
6:57
It started when I was about 14 years old and I met a TV journalist in my hometown of Radstock in Somerset.
Fiona ScottSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER

And on that day was the moment I thought, that's the job that I want to do.

I want to tell stories in communities about people.
Matt GreenGUEST

There's enough people, there's enough lads, there's enough lads coming through, there's enough talent, there's enough raw talent as well.

Like, you know, if you come from, out by Radstock or the Mendips, you've got a different, you know, you look at Ashley Barnes, you know, that's where he's from, Poulton, Mendips, like, they do get produced, but, we could be producing so much more I think as an area and how is another question but I genuinely think there's a tiny bit of a lack of belief as well and I see it sometimes in the kids even when I'm coaching I'm like I've got to play a big club today and So what? It's football, like, just don't worry about it, you know? Like, just go and enjoy the occasion, you know? So,

we are a big club.

Yeah, well,

But that car was kind of quite quickly my early kind of automotive identity as much as I kind of loathed the auto transmission.
Francis BourgeoisGUEST

But driving from where I used to live in Froome to school 15 minutes away in a town called Radstock, it was a national speed limit road, which I certainly abided by.
Francis BourgeoisGUEST

But I optimised every single corner.

And then these earlier black and white pictures, or sepia-tone pictures, of these blue, elegant locomotives.
Callum WillcoxPANELIST

And then reading the captions saying Bath, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, I'm thinking, hang on a minute, that is literally just down the road from me.
Callum WillcoxPANELIST

And going there and seeing those locations, I'm thinking, So he must have been standing here when he took that picture.
Callum WillcoxPANELIST

And I think that was the connection, was the fact that it was not only just a beautiful prototype to model.
Craig TileyHOST
28:03
It's a shame really there's not more sort of surviving in terms of an active preservation railway because obviously you've got Shillingstone.
Craig TileyHOST
28:12
I was there actually only a couple of weeks ago for the model railway exhibition which was staged there and that's a fantastic little setup celebrating the S&D there but obviously there's no great length of running line there and similarly at Midsomer Norton as well which is another fantastic tribute to the S&D and a great recreation of that station as it was back in steam days but yeah it's a shame really that the S&D is not better represented in preservation I think in terms of a decent running line given like you were saying Callum the type of terrain that it ran through would have made for a very picturesque and really good preserved line
Callum WillcoxPANELIST

But in general as well now considering how the little towns of villages it once served have grown especially like the likes of Midsomer Nottingham and Radstock that would have been a valid commuter route for those getting into Bath particularly because most of those towns which are now, you know, they're huge towns now, they're probably doubled, tripled in size after the S&D left and Most of the people that live there commute into Bath and Bristol for their line of work and you'd think it'd be an invalid route now and it was reported back in the day that when the line closed that Ivo actually approached BR saying that they should keep the S&D open as a single track line and a bit like the line down through here to Exeter.

It will need less upkeep, for it is always shorter, and this last consideration explains what would otherwise be inexplicable, the extraordinarily steep gradients which primitive roads and even the roads of a high civilization will take.

55:56
One of the best examples of this in England is the behaviour of the Foss Way in the neighbourhood of Radstock in Somerset.
speaker_4NARRATOR
56:03
Here the original road was presumably a prehistoric track, but we know that it was carefully remodelled by the high Roman civilization.

56:11
It must have been used for the great mass of travel during four hundred years, from the first occupation of the west of England by the Romans about AD 50 to the breakdown about 450, and right on into the Dark Ages, that is, for not less than one thousand years.

The Health and Safety Executive has sanctioned a building firm for using Twin and Earth as an extension lead.
Joe RobinsonHOST

The organisation served two immediate prohibition notices against Kamley Construction, South West Limited, a contractor based in Radstock, Somerset.
Joe RobinsonHOST
3:19
The first was for the Twin and Earth, which was trailing along a walkway and connected to a socket which was not wall mounted.
Joe RobinsonHOST

The second was for exposed electrical conductors coming from consumer units.

Tim HubbleSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
36:35
Hi it's Tim and firstly I just wanted to mention the Radstock game on Tuesday and give a big shout out to our opponents because they came to us and just wanted to play football and give it a go.
Tim HubbleSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
36:50
I thought we paid a lot of respect to them too with the side we sent out but it was always going to be one-way traffic.

Matty Gould did make one smart save and you know what I wouldn't have begrudged him a goal because it was nice they didn't come there to clog us.
DaveHOST
3:27
And I don't know if this affects your goals averages, Craig, but a 7-0 midweek win since the last time the Glovers cast met.
DaveHOST
3:37
7-0 over the mighty Radstock Town.
DaveHOST
3:40
Did you attend that one, Craig? Did you even think about attending that one?
Andy CraigGUEST
3:47
No, I didn't, no.
DaveHOST

He's not going to play for a little while, is he? Obviously, Steve Walker's been out injured.
DaveHOST
5:00
Yeah, I can absolutely see the idea of getting some fitness in.
DaveHOST
5:04
But what do you think, Ed? Is it a bit of a risk to put some of these players out there with the potential of injury getting clogged by someone from Radstock?
Ed TurnballGUEST
5:15
I mean, in hindsight, as far as I'm aware, we got through injury-free and confidence-boosting 7-0 win.
