Quintus Caecilius Metellus Nepos

Plutarch tells of a scene from the year Cato was Tribune of the People.

Another Tribune, Metellus Nepos, wanted to pass a law bringing Pompey back to Rome with his army, and on the day of the vote, he filled the forum with armed men and gladiators.

Metellus and Caesar, who was praetor at the time, sat at the top of the steps of the temple of Castor.

Cato made his way through the armed men, climbed up, and sat down calmly between the two of them so that they couldn't whisper to each other.
