Quincy

Of course, I'm a small town girl.

I was born and raised in this little farming town called Quincy, Washington.

My dad was a crop farmer and I'm the youngest of six kids.

and he was a hard worker hardest working man i know and i think that's where i get some of that like drive and passion so i from a young age i i always loved doing the lemonade stands and i started my own business was like when i was in like in the fourth grade so i just had this passion for entrepreneurship and i know i wanted to do two things when i got older have a business and be a mom and um i've been able to do both and it's been so beautiful and such a fun journey

you know, but also leadership opportunities growing up and some of my best friends.

And really what's really cool, actually, I'll bring this up.

Two of my best friends in Quincy, Washington, they are related to the now owners of Pink Desert.

Which is so, it's just such a full picture.

What I see increasingly in the US, what a lot of data center developers are leaning on is that the data center is creating so much in taxable revenue that it's helping to fund building hospitals and schools and libraries and parks.

I just saw a post yesterday about Quincy, Washington.

I've heard this conversation multiple times in Northern Virginia.

I heard this in my own home area in South Florida.

that state and the investment data centers have made there as it relates to bonuses for teachers.

But you have Quincy, Washington, where hospitals, new schools, libraries have been built thanks to the investment of these companies within these communities.

And so the president sees around the corner, and you know as well as anyone, Mark, he doesn't back down because the media says you should be scared.

He doesn't back down because some Silicon Valley nerds say that we should be scared.

Yeah, it's incredible.

Quincy, Washington, I think is.

That's the one I was referencing, I think.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And I think...

On the narrative front, we do need to get the stories like Quincy out there in the Alaskan Permanent Fund.

Because if you are a rural community, again, I've seen this in Appalachia where we operate, again, the towns that we go into for Bitcoin mining alone.

And there are examples of where that's happened.

Like Quincy, Washington.

This is a town of less than 10,000 people and roughly 30 data centers.

With all the tax money they've got from those, they've built things.

I am squarely focused on one of the, to answering Chamath's question from earlier, which is whom is it benefiting, and give me concrete stories, right? Uh, we talked about the productivity benefits a bit, uh, whether it's in healthcare or in general knowledge work, coding.

But I'll give you another example, right? I was looking at data centers, because after all, we didn't talk much at, uh, today on that, but there's a real challenge on how does one earn permission, uh, to open a data center in a region? In fact, w- we just have some of the best longitudinal data now for a data center we built out in Quincy, Washington, uh, for 20 years, close to.

You know, 2008 is when we started it.

And when I look at that data and what it has meant for that community, right, where, uh, the tax revenues have gone up 12 times, uh, the paid-in taxes have gone down by a third, um, the growth is higher than Seattle, in Quincy.

This is a rural town.

Uh, they have a new school, a new hospital, a new town center, a new aquatic center.

Yeah.

See, I think storytelling is one thing.
