Because remember, based on our math from when Queen Charlotte was supposed to occur and how old they would be now.

Like we said, Queen Charlotte would be in her 70s.

Because as we've said before, There are things that are non-issues, race, because with the entrance of Queen Charlotte, we've completely diversified the society to the point where it's not even a question.

No one's weird about race anymore, right? But we're still weird about sexuality in that nobody is not heterosexual, at least not visibly.

and we're still weird about gender because women don't have all the same rights that men do and we're still fucking weird about class because you're not meant to marry outside your class we've seen couples throughout the series break up for less than that so not saying that i would want benedict and sophie to break up but i was just like fucking really this is the shit this was the tension this was the shit to be afraid of eloise and theo sharp i know that's obviously a significant class difference between them much more than between benedict and sophie but Just as an example, like you're saying we could just lie a bunch and then it'd be fine.

And you've got the ton behind you.

It's supposed to also warm you up to Queen Charlotte again.

You know, she tried to forbid Lady Danbury to leave after all her commentary about she doesn't care about maids and regular people.

So when the adaptation gives Queen Charlotte a complex inner life or creates intricate rivalries among the peripheral families, they aren't necessarily improving the central romance.

They are building a load-bearing infrastructure around it so it doesn't collapse on screen.

and they pushed that infrastructure building to its absolute limit with the spinoff.

The breakdown highlights Queen Charlotte, a Bridgerton story, noting that it's almost as popular as The Parent Show.

It was a massive hit.

But what they did here is wild.

They took the purely fictional, slightly cartoonish, candy-colored world established by Julia Quinn's novels, and they anchored it directly into factual, documented history with the very real marriage and mental health struggles of King George and Queen Charlotte.

And again, because that core is so solid, we see the sideways expansion.

Because the world's rules are so firmly established, Shonda Rhimes was able to create the Queen Charlotte prequel series.

Which was also a massive hit.

Huge.

And that is a lot of pressure.

The way that she treats, I was going to say India, that's not the right name, Charlotte.

The way she treats Charlotte and Agatha is both trying, but also I think in a way she didn't want to hand things to people.

She wanted them to earn it for themselves.

Right.

And they elevated secondary characters, most notably Queen Charlotte, to such a degree that she basically swallowed up the narrative oxygen in the best way possible.

Oh, she completely stole the show.

She really did.
