Etherums Effort To Attack Quantum Computing with John Lillick - QBC Ep. 08
P
6:39Pete RizzoHOST
Today, we're going to delve in to key questions.
P
6:42Pete RizzoHOST
How does quantum computing affect smart contracts? How does the quantum internet change our outlook for blockchains? John, welcome.
J
6:52John LillickGUEST
Oh, thank you for having me.
J
6:52John LillickGUEST
It's great to see you again, Pete and Nathan.
J
8:18John LillickGUEST
This is why I think long-term smart contract platforms are at big risk.
J
8:22John LillickGUEST
I think in the end, it could just be Bitcoin and quantum money.
J
8:25John LillickGUEST
And what I mean by that, and the first thing I tell people, start by Googling quantum internet China, okay? So once you start to get into the pace of innovation and what's happening in that space, okay, this is like really, really smart people, all the sovereign wealth money, all the huge capital has been coming into this space for a long time.
J
8:46John LillickGUEST
You have a vibrant ecosystem from startups like PsyQuantum all the way to mature companies like IBM and Google and so on.
Why transduction could become the control point of quantum networking
V
1:36Vijoy PandeyGUEST
So the transduction piece matters because that's the connectivity between the islands of compute and the homogenous, almost internet scale network that we are building in the quantum space.
V
1:51Vijoy PandeyGUEST
So think of Cisco as building the quantum internet.
V
1:55Vijoy PandeyGUEST
at that scale so it can connect multiple compute islands it can connect quantum sensors it can connect it can connect classical entities and endpoints that might need quantum networks as well and we can talk about that in a second but it there are many many things we can connect through a quantum network which is homogeneous scalable operable and then you have these compute islands which are of different modalities of different challenges The unfortunate bit happens to be that transduction is everybody's problem and it's nobody's problem.
V
2:32Vijoy PandeyGUEST
And so what ends up happening is people solve it for their domain, but people don't solve it beyond their domain.
16 MINS LATER
F
18:23FrankHOST
I want to take a step back.
F
18:25FrankHOST
maybe before we do that, is what do you want to achieve in the coming five years?
V
18:33Vijoy PandeyGUEST
I want to get to a point where the quantum internet is as well understood, as well available as a quantum network or a classical internet is today in the world.
V
18:50Vijoy PandeyGUEST
So I want to be able to get to a point where Our customers, operators, are offering entanglement as a service to their customers.
Why quantum networks need a new architecture
V
24:00Vijoy PandeyGUEST
Transduction is an example.
V
24:02Vijoy PandeyGUEST
But we also need systems people because quantum systems like quantum networks need to be deployable at scale, need to be operable at scale.
V
24:13Vijoy PandeyGUEST
And that is something that people don't pay as much attention to.
V
24:17Vijoy PandeyGUEST
So going back to your question, the fact that we've built switches and routers that can be operable, that can be deployed at scale.
