Quaker Oats

But today I want to tell the story of Quisp and Quake.

These were the names of breakfast cereals, both distributed by Quaker Oats.

Quisp was first introduced in 1965 as a sugar sweetened cereal.

The advertising featured the brand character, Quisp, who was a diminutive alien cartoon figure with a propeller on his head allowing him to fly.

The crown prince of planet Q, he was dressed in a green boiler suit with a Q belt buckle on his black belt.

Quaker Oats launched Quisp with a competing and companion character named Quake.

Now, Quake was portrayed as a tall, muscle-bound, red-headed miner wearing blue pants, black work boots, a red t-shirt emblazoned with a big blue Q, a yellow miner's helmet with a headlamp, a wristband on his right arm, and a purple cape.

Now, the actual cereal products themselves were very similar and both tasted quite similar to Cap'n Crunch.

To that, uh, I then pour in about a half a cup of...

And this is my favorite, Quaker Oats Simply Granola.

I love it because a big box is 24 ounces, and it's between six to seven bucks.

Now, you may think, "Well, David, that's a lot for cereal." I hope you see where I'm going with this.

Yeah, you could do that then.

And so I got a master's and a Ph.D. And then I went to work for Quaker Oats in Chicago.

This is the story about Captain Crunch.
