Quad flat package

Versus a QFP, that's a quad flat pack, and it's flat because it sits at, on the surface of a PCB.

This all comes from, this all comes from the old through-hole days when it used to be a DIP, a dual inline package, and then they discovered, hey, rather than put these things through the board, what if we just flatten these leads and put these things on the board? And you had the DFP, the dual flat package, and then they put pins on all four sides and it became the QFP, the quad flat package.

That's a little trip down memory lane there.
