Qian Xuesen

First off, I have the book Thread of the Silkworm by Iris Chang.

And while that book doesn't cover the program we're going to be talking about, Shuguang, it does talk a lot about Qian Xuesen and the Cultural Revolution.

For the program itself, I mostly relied on the work of space historian Subodhanah Wijeyaratne, and the textbooks China in Space by Brian Harvey, and China's Space Program by Professor S. Chandrasekhar.

I've also got some articles from Spaceflight History, and historian Paul Drye's website False Steps.

The Fifth Academy under Qian Xuesen was still in its infancy.

He'll definitely get his own series, but as a crash course, Qian was actually one of the founders of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and then he got Red-scared back to China.
