He'd been a childhood fan of, of H.G. Wells, The Pulps, and he said, "Okay, by God, if you won't let me put on a straight-through adult situation here in the six-- in the world of sixties TV, then I'll do-- I'll dress it up with purple and green aliens and spaceships and ray guns-

... and we'll sneak it through.

Now, Adding on to that, I want to sort of take a bit of a tangent here and talk about world building and emergent mapping.

And the reason I'm doing this is I came across a 2023 blog post by Ken Lizzie, an avowed fan of the Pulps with, as stated on their blog, a personal quest to help infuse a Pulp sensibility into 21st century fiction.

So his post is entitled Tower at the Edge of Time, Not Precisely a Towering Achievement.

And it shows a similar reaction to mine, noting the superficial nature of the plot and the characters.

Yeah,

dude, it's the heyday of Pulp and Men's Adventure, like, reignited, you know, and I think that what's so cool is obviously there was more opportunity back in the day with gold medal and all the other paperback guys.

And, and it was like, people were reading a lot more back then too, but they didn't have this access to kind of just coming together as a collective.

And, and, being able to pitch stuff like this.

And I'm sorry for saying that, but like that's sort of where this tradition is coming out of.

And you see this in sort of the Pulps and Indiana Jones style stuff of the serial radio play where that sort of thing is bundled up in all of that too.

And I'm sorry to take it to like a dark place with this like largely fun serial radio adventure.

But that's an interesting thing to put into your book.
