Publicly Available Specification

We had to pay money for it.

We had to pay BSI to get a, what they call a PAS, Publicly Available Specification.

Got to go through the same process, get all the con- everybody, uh, uh, all the stakeholders involved in it.

And we very, very quickly came up with a PAS, PAS 250, that covered, right, how are these to be designed.

And therefore, rather than the approved document L, we would use an alternative standard.

And there's some publicly available specifications, so PAS 2030, PAS 2035.

So I really do think that architects should be aware that there's always guidance available, which can justify the approach that they're taking.

And therefore, it's a case of utilizing that guidance, explaining why it's suitable to the building control body, and explaining, therefore, why the project meets the requirements of the building regulations themselves.

And by what I mean by that is to say, going back to my part L analogy or example, It's more than reasonable for me to say Part L imposes a requirement in Schedule 1, and it says that within the regulation.

The approved document talks about technical, functional and economical in terms of thermal upgrades, and it says that within the approved document.

And it's more than reasonable for me to say, have you considered this alternative guidance, PAS 2030, PAS 2035? because you could utilise that as an alternative if you think it's suitable.

That is reasonable for a building control body to have discussions about.
