Public value

Well, that is the question at the center of the sixth annual State-Owned Enterprises Conference 2026, organized by Miller SA and held on the 22nd to the 23rd of October last week at the Premier Hotel in Umlaunga out in Durban.

The theme was Repositioning State-Owned Enterprises for Performance, Accountability, and Public Value.

And this year's edition is Billed as a Strategic Reset.

My guest was the woman who was in charge of chairing the program, Jamano Neji Wa Suaulu.

So for me, I really think that by the end of 2027, success should be reflected in stronger governance practices, improve audit outcomes, success should be reflected in stronger governance practices, and also, you know, increase public confidence in state-owned enterprises.

We have seen quite a number of them going through some financial challenges, but over the years, we have seen some of them, those that were, those that regressed earlier on, they are really coming back.

So ultimately, success means institutions that are better able to deliver on their mandates and create public value.

Now the 2026 program was rebuilt around the feedback from the delegates of 2025.
