Psychological horror

Like, there is a little bit.

But it's more of, like, a psychological horror and... uh it was pretty creepy I'm not gonna lie um like you said the the first half of it is like extremely atmospheric and I obviously as somebody who's like a huge fan of found footage loved the shooting style of just just this like dude Caleb like making quote-unquote shooting his video and one of the things I appreciated about it also is that I never encountered the situation that we talked about before when we did that, like found footage bonus episode where we were talking about like, why would this person be filming this specific scene? Like everything in this seemed a very organic and natural to me.

And the way that it switched between like him talking to the camera or like holding the actual camera and like whatever surveillance he's using, like all felt supernatural and it wasn't like choppy in any way.

So I, I was like, actually really impressed with like the cinematography of it

As an audience, you know they have this incredible, undeniable real-life chemistry, but how does the film manage to use that romance to raise the stakes without it turning into, like, a soapy CW-style melodrama?

Well, by grounding it in genuine psychological horror, the film basically weaponizes our parasocial investment in that relationship.

Weaponizes it, wow.

Yeah, because we desperately want them together, and the movie uses that desire against us.

Okay.

If navigating a 16-year-old cold case is the ultimate test of objective reality, we have to talk about the psychological horror villains because they operate on the exact same axis.

They absolutely do.

Let's look at Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street.

It's not going to happen.

But if they made a cool, subtle, psychological horror, that to me freaks me out.

I like that scarier than, to me, supernatural freaks me out more than some guy with a knife and hacking.

That's not scary.

It was made to get you to think where Ice Cream Man is just made to...

Let you watch gore.

I think Ice Cream Man, and I don't know what it's going to be about, but if it's well done, you know, psychological horror, I would like it.

I'm afraid it's just some splatter fest.
