Psycho IV: The Beginning

I'm drawing a blank on that now.

but it's worth it if you're interested.

Psycho IV: The Beginning, um, that has the Olivia Hussey, who was the final girl from Black Sunday, plays his mom-

Um, yeah.

Not only did they make a, a sequel, I didn't know this until recently, there's, what, like, five movies.

There's Psycho II in 1983, Psycho 3, III in '86, Psycho IV: The Beginning in 1990, and then I did know that there's a Psycho remake in 1998.

Oh, wow.

I, I had done a couple before that.

But we had done, uh, Psycho IV:

Uh, that's still a problem to this day when you run out of crew.

It didn't occur to me that Psycho IV was the one that was shot in Orlando.

I, I, I-

Why can't I remember his name? Elliot.

He was also Norman Bates in Psycho 4.

And he was

Bastion in The NeverEnding Story.

So, um, I'm having a real problem with horror movies that, that I know about of after about literally six minutes.

Um, So that's why I end up with Psycho 4, which turns out is delightful.

Not a great movie, just a solid watch.

I actually noped out of Demon Knight about 45 minutes into it because it's like, yeah, I've seen all these things before done better.

Sucked

Psycho IV rules.

IV, really good.

Yeah.

... is not the original Psycho house.

It's the one from Psycho IV-

But, like, the bathtub scene, him discovering Maureen in the tub and, like, flashing between his perspective and then, like, really leaning in on her perspective and getting to the heart of what she is seeing and sort of, like, what's going on in her head as all of these – layers are sort of conflating upon themselves or you know layering themselves together for this whole big massive complicated mess literally and figuratively that we find ourselves in but there's just like so much confidence here that really like I don't know I think more fondly about you know Norman Bates and just the entire psycho franchise as a result even you know coming in that was not necessarily something that I would have considered I would wouldn't have considered myself like oh I'm gonna be like a psycho completist for sure but now I feel like that's that's more than likely the case and I have Kelly to thank thank you Kelly for that

I'm excited for you I really like if you watch Psycho 4 I kind of want to know like what are your thoughts I kind of like talk bad about it but um I you know it's worth watching it's it's a curiosity for sure um I'm so glad you started talking about kind of like the uh kind of the the techniques and just the way he's directing and the the standout scenes um and especially highlighting the ones uh with marine those are so fascinating um i think uh kind of the the the strange chemistry between him and marine so interesting i think the scenes between him and duke really sizzle um the uh oh my god uh And, you know, really Duke, Jeff Fahey in general, I think, really kills it in this movie.

He is so...

Especially when he gets really sweaty at the end.

Because they're such different movies.

Yeah.

Somebody should accidentally watch Psycho 4 for this podcast.

Psycho 3 goes more into the slasher realm, so it's still a fun time.

Psycho 4 I could live or live without.

I'd be okay if this one didn't exist, but it is interesting because it goes into the childhood of Anthony Perkins' character, Norman Bates, and then it also gives you what he's been up to since Psycho 3, so it's a little interesting.

The Gus Van Sant, no.

I love Psycho III.

And Psycho IV I've heard is rubbish, and I never watched it.

Um, but we could watch that too.

Well, we could just do only Anthony Perkins films on the podcast.

So I started collecting them and picking them up for sometimes 50 or 25 cents a piece.

One day I found Psycho 4 and thought I had found a wonderful treasure as I had never seen it before.

But in the words of Han Solo...

It was more like, what a wonderful spell you've discovered.
