And folks, as we wrap up, you know I mentioned Psalm 11 verse three, "If the foundations be destroyed..." We are so blessed in this nation, the foundations of America, it was Christianity, it was the Bible and biblical principles and the Great Awak- the First Great Awakening that really paved the way for the American Revolution.

And for two centuries plus, America, we've been so blessed to be at the absolute forefront of the fulfillment of Christ's Great Commission.

Confidence in crisis | Psalm 11 | Roger Kay
R
2:58Roger KayGUEST
When life gets overwhelming, it's natural to want to find a way out, to want to get off that treadmill and find a cosy little corner in which to hide.
R
3:12Roger KayGUEST
When David wrote Psalm 11, he seems to have been in a situation like that.
R
3:19Roger KayGUEST
We're not precisely told what the events were behind this psalm, but it's likely they were early in David's adult life, before he became the king of Israel.
R
3:33Roger KayGUEST
That time of waiting was for David a hard and dangerous time.

The secure world that they had known, its very basis were now crumbling.

The advice of David's advisors here in Psalm 11 is, of course, the counsel of the feeble-hearted.

How understandable it is.

Now today, as you've heard, we're commencing a three-week holiday series where we're looking at a few Psalms and today's Psalm is Psalm 11 and in that we get the testimony of the Psalmist David who, when being in a very dangerous situation, testifies about how he takes refuge in God and then he goes on to explain why he thinks that's a reasonable thing to do.
S
4:25Stephen LigginsHOST
And the reasons that he gives for taking refuge in God are still reasons which are highly relevant for us today because you and I can often find ourselves in difficult, overwhelming, challenging and perhaps even dangerous situations and in these situations we have to ask ourselves the question, well where do we look, where's our refuge, where's our safe spot, where do we look for comfort and support and protection? So, the question of where will we take refuge is a good one, will we take it in God or elsewhere? And I can saw, you can see the relevance of the topic tonight.

So we're going to look at the psalm, hopefully you've picked up, as Jack described earlier, the sermon outline and firstly, I want to think about, firstly, the decision that David makes at the start of this psalm in verse 1, Then in verses 1 through to 3, the other decision he might have made, but didn't.
