Psalm 104

So we're going to go through the first of our passages this week.

And we told you last week, actually, we're going to start with Psalm 104.

We suggested maybe last week you think about your top 12 passages that you would pick from the Bible.

But we will not do top 12, but 12 passages if you're going to pick 12 to kind of summarize what's in there.

Psalm 104 Bless the Lord, O my soul.

O Lord, my God, you are very great.

You are clothed with splendour and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.

Let's talk about it.

Trees of the Lord are full of sap.

Psalm 104, 16.

If they have their roots in the river, of course.

You know what the sap does for a tree? Makes the leaves shine.

We're meant to give thanks.

Look at Psalm 104 verse 14.

It says, You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth fruit from the earth and wine to gladden the heart of man.

oil to make his face shine, and bread to strengthen the man's heart." Are we together? Did you guys see it? Praise God! I like Acts chapter 14.

We are talking about food, let me talk about wine a little bit.

The same thing with people that drink wine.

Like what we read in Psalm 104 now.

I know we come from a very Methodistic, Baptistic Christianity underneath our Christianity in Nigeria and all that but this is the

And, uh, the theology is interesting.

I mean, people, uh, who think that God has done it in multiple locations, some even say millions of times on different, uh, planets, will cite things like Psalm 104, Job 37 and 38, uh, other creation Psalms, uh, the Book of Isaiah, uh, which makes the point God takes great joy in creating.

Mm-hmm.

And particularly see in Psalm 104, He purposely, and it's also in Isaiah 45, He designed the Earth to, uh, have life on it, but He filled it with life-

... and filled it with the greatest possible diversity and abundance.

So, uh, so this could settle an theological debate-

Right

He wanted to wait till he was 35 like everyone else, but in religious obedience, he submitted.

And his first public lecture was a reflection on Psalm 104, in particular verse 13, which says, "From your chambers you water the mountains, from the fruit of your labor the earth abounds." And he compares teaching, teaching theology to rain rolling down the side of a mountain and watering the fields below and bearing forth fruit.

So what happens is so- somebody will contemplate divine things and then share the fruits of their contemplation with others, and this, as it were, waters the fields that represent the Church.

And he says, this is, this is his conclusion.
