Listen, that's how these Robs are, okay? Uh, there's, I can only be the one.

But you know what's crazy? There were three contestants from Rhode Island at the start of this season and, and now I think, what, wasn't, uh, wasn't Aaliyah from, from, uh, Providence? Yes.

Yeah.

Um, she's from Providence.

So-

Overrepresent.

She has just graduated with her master's degree in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island.

So she's right here down the street from me in Providence.

And I'm so excited to have her on the show today to talk about her graduate research in chemical oceanography, studying water quality and oysters and oyster farming gear.

Wow, yeah.

So although it's the smallest state, it has 400 miles of coastline.

It was founded by Roger Williams in 1636, who established Providence at that time.

And he was a strong advocate of religious freedom and separation of church and government, known as church and state, right? Rhode Island, the state of Rhode Island, is known as the Ocean State.

And it has places like Narragansett Bay.

Newport became famous for the fancy mansions and stuff that were there.

And then the state also played an important role in the American Revolution because the Battle of Rhode Island took place there in 1778.

So, um, the famous, uh, Rhode Island red chicken breeding originated there, uh, if you know anything about chickens, which we used to have some for a while, and, um, big universities, you know, also Rhode Island is known, its state motto is just hope, which is very interesting, um, i've actually met a lot of people from rhode island i still remember the first time i visited rhode island and they liked it there but a lot of them had some bad things to say about some government stuff that happens there sometimes overall a beautiful beautiful state might be small but it's incredibly beautiful go online and look up newport look up the breakers uh, Newport, you know, amazing, the breakers, these fancy, fancy houses, looks like, uh, you know, Paris, France, and the giant mansions and stuff there, like the ones that we visited a few years ago, um, other places to visit, Providence, Block Island, and, uh, just like a 12-mile, um, It's 12 miles south of the mainland.

It's known for its beaches, lighthouses, all that kind of stuff.

He is Dan McAllen of the Boston Globe.

And Dan, as you write in Roadmap, what is going on with the Providence schools and the takeover, and it sounds right now like a very fluid situation, but nothing good.

Yeah, what's funny is it's almost back to square one.

If you remember, there were a lot of conditions that were in place back when the Johns Hopkins report famously came out seven years ago and about why, which, you know, led to the state takeover of Providence schools.

But one of the not insignificant kind of findings that was something that you and I have talked about for a long time.

It was like, there's a lot of dysfunction in this place.

City council was very dysfunctional.

Um, And you're back in a place now, state schools back under local control.

Over the course of the weekend, it's very strange, but these kids that play UMass Dartmouth football team, well, actually, you can figure out why.

So they all travel to this club in Providence called Club Mezzo.

And as they're all waiting outside, Who knows what happened? But one of the members of the football team stabbed and killed another member of the football team.

And I mean, to me, it's fairly obvious.
