Proverbs 23

It will lead you into the bush.

Proverbs 23, verse 29.

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who tarry long over wine.

Those who go to try mixed wine.

That's what gluttony and drunkenness does.

Those things make themselves your master.

Look at Proverbs 23.

Proverbs 23 verse 1 to 3.

And in a way, I kind of feel like God left us breadcrumbs for his definitions of health in the scripture.

including where it says in Proverbs 17, 22, and this is the NIV version, a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Okay.

So soak that in.

But I also want to share Proverbs 16, 24, where it says, gracious words are a honeycomb and sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Okay.

And so these two literally talk about how our head and heart are what becomes good medicine and health, but it literally talks about, and it uses the words, a cheerful heart and gracious words being good medicine and healing to the bones.

greetings people loved by god so our last study found us in the middle of proverbs 23 we return to solomon's theme of discipline he exhorted that we were not to withhold it from a child and that by diligently correcting a child we actually end up steering him or her away from sheol that is away from death and destruction He told his son, for whom he was writing these Proverbs, that if his son's heart was wise, it would make his heart glad as well, and how his inmost being would exult when he heard words of righteousness come tripping out of his son's mouth.

He warned the lad to beware of envying the lot of sinners in this life and to instead devote himself to the fear of the Lord, or as we would say it, a pious, a godly life.

For that's the only life with a future and a sure hope.

Ask yourself this.

Is my appetite under my control or am I under my appetite's control? Because the Bible makes it clear about gluttony in Proverbs 23, verse 20.

Do not mix with wine bibbers or with gluttonous eaters of meat.

That's what the Bible says.

Notice what the Bible says.

Proverbs 23, buy truth and don't sell it for love or money.

Buy wisdom, buy education, buy insight.

Now what does that mean? It means anytime you use your money to buy a spiritual book, a Christian book that helps you grow, you've invested in the growth fund.
