Prophecy of the Popes

St. Malachi... was a renowned 12th century archbishop and church reformer who played a major role in aligning the Irish church with Roman practices and restoring ecclesiastical discipline.

Although he was celebrated for his piety and leadership, a set of cryptic predictions known as the Prophecy of the Popes was falsely attributed to him centuries after his death.

These prophecies were first published in 1595. and are widely regarded by historians as a pseudepigraphic fabrication.

Enthusiasts of these prophecies claim that after Pope Francis, the 112th and final pope as per the count of the prophecies, comes a period of tribulation and the destruction of Rome, possibly spearheaded by a figure known as Peter the Roman.

Here we have a bit of a different case.

The case of Abbe Joseph Maitre and his Prophecy of the Popes bears an imprimatur from 1898.

Here, he connects scripture and prophecy to what he believed, what heaven wanted you to know, if Father Mater is to be believed, about what is coming, or what has already come to pass.

It comes from his work, Prophecy of the Popes.

Let us reread the grave warnings which St. Paul sent to the Thessalonians on the subject of the man of sin.

But there is one entreaty we would make of you, brethren, as you look forward to the time when our Lord Jesus Christ will come and gather us into himself.
