Project Sherwood

And so we did a lot of experiments over the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and 80s.

There's a Project Sherwood, which was the name of the effort led by the DOE, or back then the Atomic Energy Commission, now the Modern Department of Energy.

And that really built that physics basis for fusion plasma physics that I spoke about earlier.

And then after just decades and decades of advancement and very careful application of analytical physics and increasing computational physics and building experiments, we got to the point of demonstrating ignition in the lab, which was the first time we did that was in 2022. at the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore, right outside of the Bay Area in California.
