This set was the first time, I believe, outside of times where they didn't actually have a solidified color pie, where blue can just straight up kill a creature.

Like we had seen it before in Prodigal Sorcerer, it can deal one damage to something, or like Psionic Blast.

Those are very notably... not blue effects that just appeared on blue cards.

So these new cards are blue effects of these happening for the first time.

Um, they didn't want to do that.

So they tried to do like actual mirrored cards where the example they gave was, uh, um, Prodigal Sorcerer versus the Pyro one from...
