My guest today is Dr. Gita Maker-Clark, a board-certified integrative medicine physician, clinical assistant professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and co-director of its culinary medicine programs.

For more than 25 years, she's studied with healers, herbalists, midwives and farmers around the world, asking one powerful question.

I am Kevin Hellman, and I am a research professor located at Endeavor Health.

I have an affiliated appointment at Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago, and I've been studying menstrual pain for the past 16 years.

Amazing.

And you and Dr. Tu run the GYRL lab, correct? Yes.

You serve as the director of integrative nutrition and advocacy at Endeavor Health.

And you're a clinical assistant professor and co-director of the culinary medicine program at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, you sort of set up that program, which is pretty amazing in and of itself.

Additionally, you're a faculty member for the University of Arizona Integrative Medicine and Ayurveda Fellowship.

Emmet grew up in Jerusalem and served as an artillery officer in the Israel Defense Forces.

Today, he's a practicing obstetrician gynecologist in Evanston, Illinois, and a clinical professor at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine.

His writings have appeared in medical literature and general publications.

His very first novel was called The Education of Dr. Montefiore, His newest book, The Wolf Shall Dwell with the Lamb, is a powerful literary and historical thriller set against the turbulent birth of the state of Israel and the complex relationship between Jews and Arabs in the Middle East.

So before we dive deeply into your newest novel, which has a bunch of medical stuff in it, and we'll touch on that as we go, I think it behooves this interview to let my listeners and viewers know that, You're a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist in Evanston, Illinois.

You're a clinical professor at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine and has published more than 65 scientific papers.

And the list goes on and on and on.

I remember identifying talent in you early on, and it's so exciting to see everything that you have accomplished.

And regarding myself, I am an allergist immunologist at Endeavor Health in Chicago, and I'm also a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

I feel like all roads lead to Chicago.

Somehow in my life, everyone has a Chicago connection and I'm very excited to have another Chicago connection on today.
