Primitive War

It's probably my favorite dinosaur movie.

I liked it better than Primitive War.

I just wanted to remind you of a really awful, uh, movie that I saw last year, which is Primitive War.

Did you see that one?

Uh-uh.

These are critics that downgrade movies because of that it's the feeling of it it's the style of it of how it made it feel this didn't take me there yes we get nods like i mentioned earlier we get like the snake in like the kitchen where it reminded me of the kitchen scene but this isn't it didn't take me back to what some critics are saying like gremlin's drastic park this is the best dinosaur movie in years that's a horrible comparison because here's the deal i think this would have been better with a bigger budget bigger budget doesn't mean more CGI it means more practical effects because they're more expensive if done right I think those scenes with the big carnivores would have been better with practical effects where we're zoomed in not zoomed all the way out just seeing people being chased This is something that completely disappointed me because it really did feel like just a generic...

I mean, Primitive War, I think, came out last year and it did the same thing.

Turn down the lights, don't show us anything special, but we know dinosaurs are there.

Put in one badass scene after another and we're entertained.

Primal War.

because you haven't seen Primitive War.

They did it first.

Yes, but out of like...

We get terrible dinosaur movies.

I watched this movie called Primitive War.

That was just a war movie with dinosaurs in it.

I'm like... we can do better than this and i think that like visually and a huge reason why dinosaur movies don't work and aren't getting made is because they're very hard to do i mean most of it's either massive animatronics work or huge scale vfx that you have to blend in with actual people and for whatever reason this is shot in broad daylight it just works like the the the cgi looks really good Whatever practical stuff if they really did any I'm not really sure if they did looked really good and it just placed you in this moment with these people and I think that that's what really made it work so I mean the end of Oak Street's not a perfect movie but like these are the kinds of things and I'm like let's give somebody 80 million dollars to do something.

Even though it wasn't a good movie, it definitely didn't feel like Jurassic Park in any way.

But I do feel like we're, and things like Primitive War, but even Primitive War with some of its dinosaurs, they look like Jurassic Park ones.

So like I said, that's where the double edge comes in.

Jurassic Park was great, but it's also kind of, I feel like, staled the genre a bit.

But hopefully, with more movies like Primitive War and Oak Street coming out, we're starting to get out of that and having things that aren't Jurassic be able to stand on their own.

Yeah.

And just because a movie decides to have dinosaurs in it doesn't mean it needs to be compared to Jurassic Park.

And nowhere close to quality, just like when Primitive War came out, I believe, last year.

that had issues too on how it handled its dinosaurs.

The technical aspects are never up to par to Jurassic Park, and it's never fully utilized because we're going cheap on the technical aspects of it.

People will see dinosaur movies if the quality is there when it comes to the dinosaurs, but you have to take a gamble on quality.

When a standard is set with dinosaurs in it, maybe the filmmakers should just set standards for themselves on how to execute versus just relying on computers to copy and paste things on film.

When it comes to Primitive War and the end of Oak Street, word of mouth will go out.

Yes, there's going to be people that like it, but at the end of the day, there's no way people are going to say this is as good as Jurassic Park or you can even compare it because the technical aspects are not there.

All right, so the movie that I picked for this week is

Primitive War.

This is an Australian 2025 sci-fi action war film written and directed by Luke Spark, adapted from the 2017 novel by Ethan Pettis.

Set in 1968 Vietnam, it follows Vulture Squad, a U.S. military reconnaissance team led by Sergeant First Class Ryan Baker, played by Ryan Quanton, that is sent by its commander, Colonel Amadeus Jericho, played by Jeremy Piven.

Dinosaur movies are already a rare breed, and rarer still

are the ones that indulge in the bloody mayhem that a battle of species would involve.

Enter primitive war, which satisfies these lizard-brain urges, if not much else.

The movie takes some time to set up its military commandos before tearing them apart, an admirable show of restraint that doesn't fully work.

And For years we talked about why isn't anyone else making dinosaur movies? Like it's all Jurassic and all we had 65 years ago.

We had this now primitive war to a degree and primitive war is getting a sequel, but it was not a theatrical success.

It was like a minor.

And then it became like a viral sensation, but it was a low budget movie.

I think part of it was like because it was is better than we were expecting because that's great if you know somebody that saw it and said this is terrific we have to check it out but if nobody's there to tell you that hey I saw it early and it's freaking terrific then you're not going to know and you're not going to show up at opening weekend because you're assuming it's the movie that you think it is

I don't think there's a problem with dinosaur movies First of all, we've only had two live action ones that got major wide releases in the 2020s.

Primitive War was a fathom film that got like a handful of screenings that doesn't really count.

And there's a lot of problems with 65 and Oak Street from the get-go.
