Primate

Verite doc from 1974, three years before the book came out.

So if it's not directly inspired by Primate, which, you know, it may or may not be, but it's at least having the same sort of conversation in the book that Primate was having and sort of, you know, the conversation about... experimentation on animals and that sort of thing that was kind of in the air at the time and primate i think is an excellent sort of encapsulation of of that at that time which if you read the book the plague dogs like they feel the same Like one of the big differences between the book and the movie The Plague Dogs is how much the movie leaves out the human characters.

But the book very much does focus on the humans who work at the lab and their sort of banal rationalizations of the things that they do.

And the banality of like the process by which they are like – tracking down these dogs and whatever you know what i mean but it very much feels like the same conversations that the scientists are having in primate um just these observed conversations and observed experiments or whatever and the banality of their sort of interactions that's the way the humans are depicted in the book and that's really not gotten across in the movie except that like the very rare glimpses you do get of the humans are just like sort of banal and nothing

The book is tonally very close to the experience of watching Primate, the Verite doc.

Like, it's a very dark book about, you know, suffering and whatnot.
